I am currently learning is INTO Mason graduate pathway program of Data Analytics Engineering, and I am preparing for a master’ degree application for the M.S. Data Analytics Engineering. I think I have enough ability to enter the master’ degree in Data Analytics Engineering. First of all, my basic knowledge of Data Analysis is solid. Since I started high school, I have had a strong interest in data and computer knowledge. During my undergraduate studies, my major was international economics and trade. Although my major is not so close to data analysis, many of my majors are basic courses in data analysis. So I have a lot of knowledge about data analysis. Secondly, I think I am used to adapting to the classroom environment and teaching methods in the United States. After two years of study, I have a deep understanding of academic knowledge. In these semesters, I have taken many of course, like EAP502, EAP506/507, etc. Through these few semesters, I think I can fully adapt to the teaching methods in the United States.
During my undergraduate studies, I have a lot of courses related to data analysis. My academic background made me become a suitable candidate for the M.S. Data Analytics Engineering program. I have learned Interpersonal Communication, Statistics Analysis for Management, Financial Reporting & Firm Analysis during my pathway. And my pathway average GPA is 3.57. Before that, I majored in International Economic and Trade during my four-year undergraduate program. All these academic backgrounds is correspondent with my selection of master’s core modules. All my academic performance proves I am qualified to learn the data analytics. During my undergraduate degree, I worked as an intern at a company. My job is the assistant of the general manager. Although it is a general manager assistant, I have the opportunity to learn from each part of the company. So I can often go to other departments to study. I have gained a lot of knowledge and information about data analysis from other departments. It is for these reasons that I am more interested in data analysis.
The program focus on providing students with an understanding of the technologies and methodologies necessary for data-driven decision-making. It matches with my expectation of improving my personal ability. I am a quick learner, especially good at solving financial and statistical problems, which can be proved by my good performance in Financial Reporting & Firm Analysis course during my INTO M.S. Business Pathway program. But I am not a good and efficient decision maker. By studying the M.S. Data Analytics Engineering program, it could offer me a more scientific and objective way to make the decision.
For me how to cooperate with other students, I would like to mention more of the MCP group of our 507 course. This group is also mentioned in my last paragraph. Our research is about multiculturalism and productivity. This actually reflects some of the problems of our international students. How can we improve the efficiency of teamwork in a multicultural context? This is what we international students need to pay attention to. I also want to mention another course STAT-515. The project is completed in small groups at the mid-term and final of the course. My team members and I are international students because we have different languages, we need to use English to communicate with each other. However, I am very comfortable with studying in the United States, so our team’s projects are well done.
I was attracted by the core courses offered by the M.S. Data Analytics Engineering program. I would like to choose Big Data and Advanced Analytics, Principles of Data Management and Mining, Analytics and Decision Analysis, and Applied Statistics as my four core modules. I will select Business Analytics as my area of concentration. The combination of the above courses will maximally expand my knowledge of how to visualize data and made them benefit for business intelligence. Due to the interest and academic background, it will certainly lead me to take the career in business. It’s already the era of big data, as we can see the quick development of the economy driven by the big data. With the strong connection between data and the areas of e-commerce, online computer games and internet finance, we can predict that the business prosperity will reply more on big data in the next five years. In order to follow the development trend of the global economy, it is compulsory to learn M.S. Data Analytics Engineering program. And, learn data analytics is also significant for me to achieve my goal to be a business decision maker with the analytic skills for solving big data problems.
